Redlands named one of the best towns in state to raise a family

Redlands is 30th on the list of 100 towns generated by the website, which provides expert reviews and data on communities and schools.
The website looked at towns with less than 100,000 residents and ranked them based on school ratings, crime rates, age demographics and access to affordable housing and child care.
A high ranking indicates that a town attracts young families with good schools and a safe community, according to the website.
Mayor Paul Foster said the community prides itself on being family-oriented, which is why they are dedicated to the development of parks, trails and open space, attracting family friendly businesses and supporting events such as the Christmas parade and Redlands Bowl program.
“All of those are cultural facets of our community that make us a very family-friendly environment and why people want to come to live in Redlands,” Foster said.
The website has given the city an overall grade of A minus.
Niche in December ranked the Redlands Unified School District 46th on its 2015 Best Public School Districts list.
“It’s no surprise that strong families want to be in a community with an outstanding public education system,” said Neal Waner, president of the Redlands Unified School District Board of Education. “On the one hand, there are invested parents that have that expectation, but on the other hand those are the parents that help make the system and the students great and they support great schools. It’s hand in glove. You can’t have a great public school system without great parental support and we’re fortunate to have that in Redlands.”
Foster said there are so many groups in town working together like a jigsaw puzzle.
“When it comes together it makes the community such a family-oriented town; everybody gets credit for a ranking like this,” he said.
